Gang left red-faced after €20,000 cash-van raid
AN armed gang made off with €20,000 yesterday after holding up a cash-in- transit van -- but they may have been left red-faced after attempting to open up the cash box and detonating a red dye security device.
Two members of the gang pulled up outside the post office at Main Street, in Nobber, Co Meath, at 10.10am as the cash was being delivered by a security firm. One of the security guards was walking into the post office with the cash when one of the raiders put a gun to his head and told him to hand over the cash box.
The raider ran into a small white van, being driven by an accomplice also armed with a gun, and the two made their getaway in the direction of Navan.
The van was later found on fire four miles away. Gardai have appealed for information.
