Gardai have stood down their appeal for information over the disappearance of Richard O'Donovan from the Swiftbrook Glen estate in Virginia, Co Cavan, yesterday afternoon.

Garda sources said Mr O'Donovan had been treated in hospital for some scratches and scrapes but he is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.

Detectives are to informally interview him today to see if they can further their investigation into the incident.

"The key to this investigation will be how much co-operation we get," said a source.

Witnesses said they saw a silver BMW X5 4x4 vehicle, registration number 03 MN, colliding with Mr O'Donovan's blue/grey BMW 3 series car at the entrance of the housing estate at around 3.30pm yesterday.

A number of men then bundled the 31-year-old into the BMW X5 and drove out of the estate.
