GAA stars pack bags for Spain
GAA stars are among up to 2,000 young Irish people bound for Spain this week to celebrate World Youth Day with up to one million youths from across the globe.
Last night, Meath senior footballer Joe Sheridan and Limerick hurling star Seamus Hickey were busy packing their bags before flying out to Madrid this afternoon.
World Youth Day, which takes place from August 16 to 21, is celebrated every three years in a different country. Mr Sheridan was invited to take on an ambassadorial role for the Meath contingent by his local Bishop Michael Smith.
"People say it is a great experience," he said.
Mr Sheridan said he was raised in a "very Catholic family" and his faith was important to him. The highlight of the event is an open-air Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict.
