From lovebirds . . . to jailbird

TEN weeks to the day since he tied the knot with his new wife, Sean Quinn Jnr is behind bars.

His best man on the day, Peter Darragh Quinn, has a warrant out for his arrest.

That night Sean Jnr whisked his bride Karen Woods around the dance floor of the plush Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt Hotel in Co Wicklow.

It must have seemed like a lifetime away as he spent his first night in the decidedly less salubrious surroundings of Mountjoy Prison. But Karen Woods was already versed, by that stage, in the complexities of joining the inner sanctum of the Quinn family.

Yesterday it emerged that she was one of eight people, including her husband, three of his siblings and his two brothers-in-law, who shared almost €3m in "wages" from the Russian company that owned the jewel in Quinn's international property crown -- the $180m (€148m) Kutuzoff Tower in Moscow.

The dark clouds that gathered around Sean Quinn Jnr, his father Sean Snr and his best man and cousin Peter Darragh Quinn were lifted temporarily as the groom entered St Mochta's Church in Porterstown, Dublin, on May 11.

Seans Snr and Jnr were excused from attending the High Court that day on account of the wedding.

Financial and legal travails were put to one side for the glamourous black-tie wedding which saw family and friends from Co Cavan bussed down for the occasion.

The beaming bride was a fashionable 20 minutes late.

Later, as man and wife, the couple happily posed for photographs at the door of the church and had a bashful kiss.

However, their married life has not got off to the best of starts as Sean Quinn Jnr faces into a three-month stretch behind bars.
