DETAILS of convicted killer Brian 'King Rat' Rattigan's secret prison life have emerged – painting a picture of a man who has taken up acting and yoga, and spends much of his time studying or in the gym.
His family revealed that the prisoner had played the role of an ugly sister and later a lion, in prison versions of 'Cinderella' and 'The Wizard of Oz', as well as producing aspects of the Christmas shows.
"He loved it, it was all for charity and they raised thousands. He played a dame, one of the ugly sisters. All the prisoners got involved and they had a laugh. He's going to do it again," said a close relative.
The drug dealer had been bracing himself for a long sentence after he was found guilty of running a drugs supply network from his prison cell.
His family revealed how Rattigan had expected the lengthy sentence after being found guilty of the crimes last month.
"He thought it would be 25 years. He's prepared for that. He knows he's never going to see (his daughter) Abbie grow up," said a relative.
His family said Rattigan had been determined to make use of his time in jail.
"When he knew he was going to prison he said: 'I'm not going to sit back and do nothing'. He was determined to do all the courses," she said.
The family also revealed Rattigan lost a kidney when he was shot in an attempt on his life. Partly as a result he doesn't drink or smoke.
