Four Tallaght teenagers have been arrested after crashing a stolen car while being followed by gardai in the Wicklow mountains.

The car had been taken from a fast food delivery driver on New Year's Eve.

The drama began in Roundwood yesterday afternoon at around 2pm.

A patrol car on a routine run spotted a car which appeared suspicious to them, travelling in the opposite direction.

After the patrol car turned around, the occupants in the suspect car sped off and were followed by the patrol car.

The suspect car crashed into a ditch at Sraghmore on the way towards the Sally Gap and the four occupants fled on foot.

Gardai continued the chase on foot and the four were apprehended a short time later.

Three of the youths were brought to Wicklow garda station while one was brought to Roundwood.

Three of them are aged 17, while the fourth is 18.

All have addresses in the Tallaght area.

Two of them were released without charge last night while the other two remained in garda custody this morning.

The car was reported stolen by a Chinese national who was delivering fast food in the Ballyogan area of Dublin 18 on New Year's Eve.
