Four million cigarettes seized in Dublin Port swoop
More than four million cigarettes worth close to €2m have been seized by customs officers at Dublin Port.
The contraband cigarettes were discovered among freight which arrived from China via Holland.
A Revenue spokeswoman said a man in his 30s from Northern Ireland was arrested, charged with evasion of excise duty and remanded in custody in relation to the find.
The haul of Raquel and Gold Classic brands - which would have cost the exchequer €1.8m in revenue - had been described on the manifest as pharmaceuticals
A truck was also seized during the operation.
Investigations are ongoing.
