Four masked men in daylight robbery of rural post office leave with 'substantial amount of cash'
Four men have been arrested following the robbery of a rural post office in which a female worker was injured this afternoon.
Gardai report a number of masked men to have entered the Main Street post office in Urlingford, Co Kilkenny shortly after midday.
The masked men threatened staff during the break-in and left a short time later with a substantial amount of cash. A female member of staff received minor injuries in the incident.
Gardai from Kilkenny and surrounding districts stopped a car travelling on the Urlingford to Freshford road soon after the incident. They arrested three men aged in their mid-twenties at the scene.
In a number of follow up searches today, a burnt-out car was discovered at Ardragh, Urlingford.
A fourth man, aged in his forties, was arrested in Kilkenny City at approximately 4pm this afternoon.
A substantial amount of cash was recovered during the arrests and subsequent searches.
The four men are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kilkenny, Thomastown and Carlow Garda stations.
