Former TV3 news anchor resigns as special advisor to Mary Mitchell O'Connor

Former TV3 news anchor Alan Cantwell has resigned as press advisor to Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor.

Mr Cantwell took up the post after the Dún Laoghaire TD was appointed to Cabinet in May.

However, the pair are believed to have had a strained relationship at times.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Ms Mitchell O'Connor thanked Mr Cantwell for his service."I would like to thank Alan for his loyal service, dedication and advice throughout his time as my special advisor in the Department  of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation," she said.

"His professionalism and work ethic was exemplary. Alan is a good colleague and friend and I am sad to see him leave.I wish him well in his future career.''
