A FORMER politician has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
The man, who is middle aged and connected to a high profile political family, was detained at his home.
The arrest followed a lengthy investigation by detectives into reports that the man had solicited a number of people to help execute the plan.
The suspect was arrested for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
He was being questioned on conspiracy to murder up to three people.
The man is understood to be in a very distressed condition in custody which has complicated garda efforts to question him about the matter.
