Former Fianna Fail education minister Noel Davern has died.

He was a former deputy for South Tipperary, member of the European Parliament and minister for state for the agriculture department.

Party leader Micheal Martin said: "Noel had a great sense of community representation and public service, which is not hard to understand given his family's legacy in public service over many years.

"Noel was known in politics for his kind nature and good sense of humour.

"He was a passionate public servant who never shied away from representing his constituents at a local, national or European level."

Fianna Fail also announced the death of TD and Senator Denis Foley.

Mr Martin said: "Denis represented the people of Kerry North as a Fianna Fail representative for almost twenty years with diligence and great commitment.

"During this time he worked with colleagues from all parties to advance the interests and issues of his community."

He began his career in local government as a councillor on Kerry County Council, where his daughter Cllr Norma Foley continues the family's tradition of public service as a local councillor.

Mr Martin added: "In the Dail and the Seanad, Denis was a tireless champion for the interests of his Kerry constituents."
