Former mayor in car accident with boy (4)

GARDAI are investigating a road traffic incident involving a car driven by former Lord Mayor of Dublin Michael Conaghan that resulted in a four-year-old boy being taken to hospital.

Deputy Conaghan was driving his car with his wife Marian when the accident happened on Sarsfield Road in Ballyfermot, Dublin, at about 3pm.

It is understood that Evan Kiernan of Landen Road was walking across a pedestrian crossing with his grandfather, who escaped injury, at the time.

The little boy suffered minor bruising to his leg. He was taken to Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin by taxi and was discharged later.

Labour TD Mr Conaghan refused to comment when the Irish Independent called to his home last night.
