Former Irish court of auditors member apologises for criticising Cardiff’s nomination
THE FORMER Irish European Court of Auditors member, Eoin O'Shea, today admitted to criticising the Government’s nominee to the court Kevin Cardiff.
He made the admission giving evidence to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs.
However, Mr O’Shea apologised for sending the email which criticised Mr Cardiff’s role in the banking crisis.
He said the email was personal and sent in a private capacity to the European Parliament’s budget committee which yesterday rejected Mr Cardiff’s nomination by one vote.
Mr O’Shea, who was a Fianna Fail appointee to the court, said he has since changed his view on Mr Cardiff and said he may have been feeling angry about not being re-appointed by the new Government.
