The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested after he was involved in a single car collision.

The incident occurred on the Finglas Road, close to Hart's Corner in Phibsboro, on the north side of the Dublin city yesterday afternoon.

It is understood that the now retired inter-county player was arrested at the scene of the accident at approximately 1.30pm.

Gardaí confirmed that nobody was injured in the incident, but said the driver was conveyed to Store Street Garda Station.

The driver was later released from Garda custody.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that the man is expected to appear before a sitting of the Dublin District Court next month in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred following the celebrations of Dublin's victory over Kerry in Sunday's All-Ireland final.

Attempts to contact the former player, who was a member of the Dublin squad, were unsuccessful last night.
