A RURAL community was in shock after a gifted footballer who was about to complete his teacher training studies died in his sleep.
Daniel Conroy (23) was found dead in his bed less than 24 hours after handing in the final project of his woodwork teaching course .
It is believed Daniel, of Cill Chiarain, Co Galway, suffered a heart attack. His death was the latest tragedy to hit the Connemara family after Daniel's father Patrick was killed in a car accident when Daniel was very young and his uncle, Martin Conroy, died suddenly while on holiday in Turkey four years ago.
Daniel had handed in his last piece of coursework – a replica of a Connemara sailing boat – late last week and texted his mother, Margaret Ann, to say he would probably be coming home the next day. He was due to complete his course next week.
He was a member of the Carna/Caiseal football team and won a county intermediate championship medal with his club last year.
He is survived by his mother and her partner, Kieran, his brother Kevin and sister Patricia.
