Ed Carty

A FIVE-year-old girl has been killed in a house fire. A man, believed to be in his 40s, and two other children, aged three and four, escaped from the home in Boyle, Co Roscommon, after the blaze broke out.

The alarm was raised some time between 2.30am and 3am after the fire was discovered at the property in Termon Road.

The man and two children who survived were taken to Sligo General Hospital for treatment.

Gardai are investigating the cause.

The house has been sealed off and Garda crime scene examiners called to carry out forensic checks on the home later this morning.
