Detectives from Kevin Street Garda Station detained the three men and two women at 6.30am this morning.

They are aged in their late teens and early 20s, and are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 in various garda stations across the city.

They can be held for up to 72 hours.

The alleged offences include withholding information into the death of Mr O’Reilly, who was fatally stabbed on Halloween night after attempting to intervene in a fight.

Mr O'Reilly (21) was stabbed to death in the south city Oliver Bond flats complex in the capital in the early hours of Sunday morning on Halloween.

It is believed the young man from Robert Emmet Close was stabbed as he tried to stop a fight.

The incident happened at approximately 2.30am as the young man was enjoying the Halloween festivities.

He received a single stab wound to the heart, and was rushed to St James's Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
