Five people arrested following probe into recent burglaries in southeast

Five people have been arrested following a number of planned searches in Portlaoise, Kilkenny and Waterford this morning.

Four men, aged 21, 28, 30 and one of whom is a juvenile, are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at various Garda Stations throughout the region.

A young girl, also a juvenile, is detained at Kilkenny Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal justice Act, 1984.

The operation was conducted as part of an Operation Thor investigation into recent burglaries in the region and to combat organised criminal activity.

An amount of property, believed to be stolen, was seized during the searches.
