Five held in cannabis factory raid

Two major cannabis factories have been dismantled by the drugs squad in the last two days, gardai have revealed.

Detectives said more than €1.3 million worth of plants and harvested drugs ready for distribution and sale were seized in separate operations in north Dublin and Kildare.

The first raid, on an industrial unit near Ballyboughil, Co Dublin, last night recovered about 1,500 plants worth about €600,000 and freshly harvested cannabis worth about €240,000.

Four men aged in their 20s to 40s were arrested at the scene.

In the second raid, an estimated €800,000 of cannabis plants were seized from premises in the Kilcullen area of Kildare.

A man in his 50s was arrested.
