Fisherman third to drown in family
A FAMILY has been plunged into grief after a third member lost his life at sea, writes Anita Guidera.
Fisherman Cathal McDaid (37) died yesterday when he accidentally fell into the sea while fishing off Achill Island, Co Mayo.
His death follows a double tragedy three years ago when his uncles Daniel (70) and Francis (68) McDaid from Glengad, Co Donegal, lost their lives after their lobster boat sank in Lough Foyle.
That incident has now become the subject of an investigation.
Cathal McDaid, from St Boden's Terrace, Culdaff, Co Donegal, was on board the Mark Amy II trawler 40 miles southwest of Achill Island when he went overboard at around 10.20am yesterday.
