Fisherman airlifted from trawler to Cork hospital

The Irish Coast Guard has successfully evacuated an injured fisherman from a vessel 200 miles off the Irish coast.

An Air Corp standby crew was scrambled shortly after 1pm in response to a request from the Coast Guard to intercept a fishing vessel south west of Mizen Head, Co Cork.

The Air Corps arrived on scene ahead of the Rescue helicopter and made contact with the vessel.

Crews spent 30 minuteswinching the casualty to safety and he was airlifted by the helicopter to Cork airport and taken to a nearby hospital.

His condition is being reported as stable.
