AN investigation is under way after a fish factory worker was killed in an accident.

Kara McCole (21) was pronounced dead after the accident at Sean Ward Fish Exports Ltd in Killybegs, Co Donegal, just after 3.40pm yesterday.

It is understood he was fatally injured when he became trapped in machinery.

The deceased and his family are well known in Inver, a village 7km from Killybegs.

His father Donnie is involved with coaching underage gaelic football teams with local club St Naul's and his teenage brother Brendan is a rising star on the minor team.

Mr McCole's mother was, until last year, the manager of the local community centre.

Local TD Thomas Pringle who lives in the Co Donegal fishing village said the community was "stunned".

Dozens of friends paid tribute to the dead man on his Facebook page last night.

"You were a great friend and a great lad who always made time for everyone," said one pal.

Gardai said the Health and Safety Authority had been informed of the incident.
