BUSINESSES are being urged to cut back on packaging this week as part of European Week for Waste Reduction.
Recycling organisation Repak said yesterday that new refill and re-usable systems are being trialled in an effort to cut costs for companies and reduce waste.
The less packaging used, the less goods cost to transport.
And in-roads have already been made. Glass containers today are on average 20pc lighter than they were a decade ago, cans weigh 30pc less and carrier bags use 45pc less plastic in their manufacture.
