Firefighters rescued in boat drama
FIVE paramedic firefighters training for a charity rowing event were dramatically rescued themselves yesterday after their boat capsized in gale force winds.
Three of the team had to be winched aboard a rescue helicopter while the other two were rushed to hospital suffering from hypothermia.
The drama unfolded shortly after 2pm yesterday when the firefighters from the Dublin Airport Fire Brigade were training at the Malahide estuary in north county Dublin.
Exceptionally strong winds are believed to have whipped up a massive wave that swamped the row boat and capsized the rowers.
