Firebomb attack on Rose's home

THE garda detective father of the 2009 Rose of Tralee has escaped unharmed after his family home was firebombed, writes Eimear Ni Bhraonain.

Gda Det Leon Kenny last night described how he put out the blaze after a petrol canister was set alight outside his front door in Athy, Co Kildare.

Mr Kenny, the dad of London Rose Charmaine Kenny, was inside the house with his wife when the incident occurred on Saturday at 6.30pm.

Charmaine, who moved back in with her parents for the year after she was crowned Rose of Tralee, recently moved out of the house.

However, her parents were at home when the attack was carried out.

"Nobody was injured, thank God," said Mr Kenny, "I put it out but it's not something you like to think about, you never know how these things can end up."

"We were lucky we were at the house and that we were able to salvage it," he added.

A spokesperson for the gardai said the attack was under investigation, however, no details were given of a possible motive. No arrests have yet been made.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
