Dublin Fire Brigade crews from Tallaght helped to deliver a baby in a house early this morning when a mother went into labour before she could get to hospital.
An ambulance and fire brigade raced to the house in the Kingswood estate at 6am when they got a call to say the baby was on its way.
Staff at fire brigade control talked the family through the labour by telephone while the emergency crews were on the way, and when they arrived the baby was making its way into the world.
"The crews helped at the final moments of the birth and then brought mother and baby to the Coombe hospital where mother and baby were thought to be doing well," said a Dublin Fire Brigade spokeswoman.
"We don't even know yet if the baby is a boy or a girl," she added.
