Fine Gael support slumps following garda controversies

Fine Gael’s support has dropped substantially following the controversies around Justice Minister Alan Shatter and the gardai.

But Fianna Fail’s support has jumped in the wake of the pressure on the Government over the garda taping scandal and the resignation of the Garda Commissioner.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are now level in support on 25pc.

But Fine Gael is down five points, while Fianna Fail is up three in Ipsos MRBI poll in The Irish Times.

Also in the poll, Labour is down by one point to eight per cent, Sinn Fein is unchanged at 21pc and Independents are up three points at 21pc.
