A GOVERNMENT minister had hundreds of euro taken from his bank account by fraudsters.

Chief Whip Paul Kehoe, pictured, has become a high-profile victim of a suspected skimming network.

Gardai are investigating after dozens of Bank of Ireland customers based in Wexford were targeted at the weekend.

The Fine Gael TD revealed he was targeted by a gang in Chicago. "The extraordinary thing is I haven't been in Chicago in years but that's where my bank details apparently ended up," he said. "I was stunned. I lost a substantial amount of money. However, I am not the only person affected by this and a lot of people in the Wexford area have been left distressed.

"The bank acted swiftly and I have to commend the manner in which it operated," he added.

A spokeswoman said Bank of Ireland was contacting customers and issuing new cards.
