AWARD-WINNING film producer David Puttnam has been appointed as the Government’s new technology tzar.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte announced the renowned film maker would be the new Digital Champion for Ireland.
In the role, Lord Puttnam will encourage the use of technology by small business, schools and the elderly and advise the Government on any blockages in the system.
Mr Rabbitte said Lord Puttnam would be an ambassador for digital in Ireland.
The position is unpaid and part-time.
The European Commission has asked every country to appoint an Digital Champion to be an advocate for the use of technology.
