A female takeaway delivery driver has been subjected to a terrifying armed robbery in Co Kildare.

The shocking incident occurred in the small village of Coill Dubh near Naas shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday.

The 44-year-old local woman was sitting in her car with another individual when she was approached by a man brandishing a large knife.

The assailant, described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene with a small cash box.

She received hospital treatment for minor injuries.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have seen a man of slim build, with a pierced ear and wearing a hat in the area at the time to contact them at Naas Garda Station on (045) 884 300.
