February 25 polling day likely with passing of bill
THE 2011 General Election is set to take place on February 25 with the passing of the early stages of the Finance Bill yesterday.
But Taoiseach Brian Cowen has not confirmed the date and still has the option of stretching it out as far as March 2.
The Finance Bill will continue to be debated in the Dail today, with the final stage being voted on at 5pm.
The legislation will then pass to the Seanad, where it will be debated on Friday and Saturday.
The Dail will potentially come back on Saturday night at 8pm, if there are any changes that need to be made to the bill.
Mr Cowen is still expected to dissolve the Dail next Tuesday -- but this is not guaranteed.
