Fears over use of trademarks

IRELAND'S growing foreign trade may have given exporters a boost but it led to fears about the misuse of Irish trademarks abroad by foreign manufacturers.
An industrial summit in the Patents Office in February 1980 heard the misuse of Irish trademarks was increasing as our foreign trade and other exchanges increased.
Those present heard of examples where Irish firms abroad, such as Bord Bainne, couldn't register the shamrock trademark due to its use by foreign companies.
