AN elderly man has died after he drove his car the wrong way onto a dual-carriageway slip road, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The incident happened in Cork on the N25 eastbound between the Little Island and Cobh junctions at around 11.30am yesterday.

Locals said that conditions on the road were misty at the time of the accident and that visibility was poor.

The man, who was in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car was taken to Cork University Hospital where his injuries were described as not life threatening last night.

Gardai closed the road and diverted eastbound traffic to through Glounthaune while the scene was cleared.
