Fasting priests raise €36,000 for charities
TWO priests who fasted for four days in the lead-up to Christmas have raised in excess of €36,000 for charity.
The fast, by Wexford Parish Adm Fr Jim Fegan and his Church of Ireland counterpart Rev Arthur Minion, concluded outside St Iberius Church in Wexford Town on Christmas Eve.
Fr Fegan confirmed yesterday that "donations were still coming in" and that the bulk of this year's donations would go to the St Vincent de Paul Society as well as four or five other local charities, such as Wexford Women's Refuge and Ozanam House.
The fast has been in operation since 1998 and has raised over €500,000 for local charities.
