THE RURAL pub associated with the iconic movie 'The Quiet Man' has been sold to a fan of the film.
Pat Cohan's bar in Cong, Co Mayo, went on sale at the start of the year. The pub, which was immortalised in the hit movie, saw a number of bidders from the UK and America show an interest.
Local auctioneer Vincent Walsh confirmed that the pub had gone sale agreed and contracts were now with solicitors.
"We have a deposit on the property and we're waiting for the solicitors to get things in order. It's early days but we are confident we'll see the deal done," he added.
The new owner is from England and already owns a number of properties in the area. He is understood to be a regular visitor to the area following on from his love of the John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara movie.
"He's very much a fan of 'The Quiet Man' and he's spent a lot of time in the area in the past. I'd say the pub will be a pastime for him more than anything," added Mr Walsh.
The pub is understood to have sold for close to the €300,000 asking price.
