THE parents of an Irishman who is critically ill in Australia have flown to be at his bedside.
Eoin Murray (30) from Maynooth is fighting for his life in a Melbourne hospital after suffering serious head injuries.
It is understood Mr Murray sustained his injuries during an incident in the Fitzroy area of Melbourne in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It is believed that Mr Murray was making his way home from a Sydney Swans match when he suffered the injuries.
His parents and sister have flown to Australia to be at his bedside.
Police in the city have said the Irishman was critically injured after hitting his head on a gutter, and are investigating whether it was an accident or if foul play was involved.
The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are providing consular assistance to the man's family.
