THE children of Gerry McCann clutched teddies as they bid a tearful farewell at his funeral
A large crowd of mourners attended the funeral of the 47-year-old actor whose body was found on Dollymount Beach last week after he went missing in late September.
The funeral took place yesterday morning at St. Anne's Church in Portmarnock.
His wife Andrea and the couple’s children, Ruth and Jacob were consoled by friends and family as the coffin was brought into the church.
Andrea clutched a framed photograph of her husband to her chest as she entered the church, and Ruth and Jacob carried teddies with them. At one point Ruth held her stuffed toy tightly in both arms under her chin.
Gifts from the children were brought into the church in a cardboard box decorated with drawings with Gerry’s photograph on the front.
Also in attendance at the funeral were Fair City actors Ciara O'Callaghan who plays Yvonne Doyle in the long running show, Enda Oates who plays Pete Ferguson and Helen Norton who plays Vivienne Lynch.
Mr McCann’s body was discovered at around 11.20am on Dollymount Strand last Tuesday by a walker.
Mr McCann was being treated for anxiety at the time of his disappearance.
He is best known for his performance in the film ‘ Life’s a Breeze', where he appeared in a scene with comedian Pat Shortt, and from past appearances as character Pascal's carer in 'Fair City.
