False alarm triggers evacuation in Shannon Airport
SHANNON Airport was evacuated for 30 minutes this morning after a fire alarm was triggered.
The evacuation took place shortly after 7am when a manually-operated fire alarm box in the terminal was triggered.
The airport was evacuated as a precaution in line with safety protocols but no fire was subsequently found.
Hundreds of passengers were ushered out of the terminal while fire officers conducted a safety inspection.
The airport resumed normal operations within 30 minutes and no flights were delayed.
An investigation is now underway into how the fire alarm was triggered.
The drama unfolded just 36 hours after Bruce Springsteen, Steve Van Zandt and members of the E Street Band flew into Ireland for a series of five sell-out concerts.
The first concert took place at Limerick's Thomond Park last night.
The next concert is in Cork's Pairc Ui Chaiomh tomorrow.
