Some 87,840 people are in receipt of the One-Parent Family Payment. Just over 1,800 of the recipients are men. Expenditure on the payment increased by 10.9pc last year Some €1bn is spent on the payment A lone parent with one child receives €225.80, which includes an adult rate of €196 and a child rate of €29.80. If the child stays in full-time education, payment continues until they are aged 22. Otherwise, the payment is cut off at 18. If the payments are phased out once the child reaches the age of 13, the parent will move on to another payment such as the Jobseeker's Allowance. They will receive this once they are actively looking for a job, receiving training or attending education courses with a view to entering the labour market.
