A MOVING tribute to the eight victims of the horror crash which claimed eight lives has attracted over 35,000 hits on a social networking website.

The Facebook page 'Remembrance of Donegal Crash Victims', which was set up days after the Inishowen tragedy, has become a channel for an unprecedented outpouring of grief for family and friends of the victims, at home and overseas.

As well as poems and songs, many have left heart-rending messages on the site, from as far away as Japan.

Some recall a last meeting with the victims, Mark McLaughlin (21), Paul Doherty (19), Ciaran Sweeney (19), PJ McLaughlin (21), James McEleney (23), Eamonn McDaid (22), Damien McLaughlin (21) and pensioner Hugh Friel (66).

Mayor of Buncrana Padraig MacLochlainn likened the page to an online book of condolences.

"It is evidence of the true nature of Irish people at home and abroad. The tributes are from people across the island of Ireland and overseas," he said.

"I know that the families will take great heart from this huge demonstration of love and solidarity in these very difficult times for them.

"It is a reminder that often in moments of the greatest adversity, the true good nature of our people is evident," he said.
