Ex-prisoner is held and quizzed on Ryan death

Alan Ryan

A MAN being questioned about the murder of Real IRA boss Alan Ryan was arrested outside Mountjoy Prison.

Detectives detained the man on Dublin's North Circular Road yesterday as he walked out of jail after completing a sentence.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to Coolock garda station. He can be held without charge for up to seven days. His is the fifth arrest in the probe.

Ryan (pictured) was shot dead in an ongoing feud between his faction and criminal gangs operating in the capital.

Gardai believe his murder was ordered by gang bosses who were under pressure from Ryan to hand over some of the profits they were making from drug trafficking and extortion and protection rackets.

Ryan (32) was gunned down while walking with two friends in Clongriffin last September.

Gardai are also investigating a paramilitary display outside his home in Donaghmede before his funeral.
