Expats urged to back rugby league players
IRELAND'S rugby league team plans to draw on support of the expat community in the UK to help cheer them to victory in a crucial world cup match.
The Rugby League World Cup kicks off in Cardiff next month, with Ireland beginning their campaign against Fiji at Spotland Stadium, Rochdale, on October 28.
The Manchester Irish Festival website has teamed up with the Ireland team to lend them some support ahead of the campaign.
Assistant coach Ged Corcoran, based in Rochdale, was part of the 2008 World Cup squad that lost to Fiji in the quarter finals.
"We have a great Irish community in Manchester. I hope many will be coming down to support their national team," he said.
