Storm Christine is the latest extreme weather to hit Ireland - but it's not a new phenomenon.

Ireland has been suffering from floods for years - and the lessons don't seem to have been learned over that time.

A selection of photos encompassing fifty-four years of flooding are in the gallery above.

Select areas show a reoccurance of flooding over several years - in particular, photosets of floodwater passing Clontarf's flood defences.

Road signs have also borne the brunt of the flooding across the country for over fifty years - several photographs, taken years apart, show road signs struggling under the pressure of the floodwater.

New homeowners attempting to stem floodwater is another reoccurring theme in the photographs, which leads the question - is the possibility of flooding considered when housing estates are built?

Check out our gallery above and let us know if you can see your area.
