Ex-CEO of Bord Gais tipped for Port of Cork job

FORMER group chief executive of Bord Gais and president of Cork Chamber of Commerce John Mullins is tipped to fill the position of chairman of the Port of Cork.

It is understood that Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has approached Mr Mullins about the role.

Mr Mullins retired from Bord Gais on New Year's Eve and has started his own investment and management advisory company.

If appointed, Mr Mullins would take over the position from Dermot O'Mahoney.

Mr Varadkar wants to appoint a high-profile person to the post who has strong contacts in the region, it is understood.

A spokesman for the minister said he could not confirm any candidates at the moment.
