Emily McGuinness scored two holes in one in less than a minute.

The 18-year-old's amazing double happened in a practice round at Murvagh golf club outside Donegal town before the Irish Girls' Close Championship which finishes tomorrow.

Emily (pictured), from Carlingford, Co Louth, struck her first-ever hole-in-one on the par-three fifth with an eight iron. Still on the tee, Emily tried another shot with a nine iron and it also rolled into the hole.

Emily, who has been playing for eight years, said: "When I got the first one I was very shocked. I tried again with a different iron because I wasn't certain the ball would have stayed on the green the first time if it hadn't gone into the hole.

"The second time I was flabbergasted. I'm told it's a record on that course."

Emily, who studies biotechnology at NUI Maynooth and is a member of Greenore golf club, added yesterday: " It would have been nice if my holes in one happened during the contest." The hole is known as the Valley of Tears because of the number of times golfers pitch their ball into a sand-bunker.
