'Shafted' Mary gets last laugh on Bertie

SHE was the woman "shafted" by the Bertie Ahern election machine in 2007 -- but last night Mary Fitzpatrick was selected for the Fianna Fail ticket in Dublin Central.
Mr Ahern, pictured with Ms Fitzpatrick last night, said his loyalties this time would be with sitting TD Cyprian Brady, who was elected off Mr Ahern's 12,734 first-preference votes in 2007, having polled just 900 votes himself.
But the former FF leader also said there was no hope of Fianna Fail winning two seats in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Mr Ahern's brother Noel became the latest Fianna Fail TD to step down.
The Dublin North-West TD made the announcement in Finglas yesterday.
