Fianna Fail polling strongly in early tallies in Roscommon
Fianna Fail is showing strongly in early tallies in County Roscommon, which put the party polling above 38% across the county.
At around 11.20am around 37% of boxes in County Roscommon were tallied, with very early indications that Fianna Fail and Independents are outpolling Fine Gael across the county.
Early tallies show that Fianna Fail is on 35% of the vote in the Athlone and Roscommon areas and on 44% in the Boyle area.
Independents are also polling strongly taking around 30% of the early tallies across the county, while Fine Gael is trailing behind on around 24% of the vote so far.
Sinn Fein, which has run a candidate in each of the three electoral areas, is taking around 8% of the vote so far.
In the 2009 elections Fine Gael pulled in 37% of the county vote, followed by 33% Independents and Sinn Fein, and Fianna Fail 30%.
The figures provide a preliminary picture of how the parties are faring but with many boxes still yet to open the picture could change somewhat as the day progresses.
It is expected that a first full tally will come around lunchtime.
