FIANNA Fail's Thomas Byrne has been eliminated in the Midlands Northwest constituency on the sixth count, leaving Marian Harkin to battle it out with Pat The Cope Gallagher for the last seat.
Byrne's 64,057 will now be distributed among the remaining three candidates and Sinn Fein's Matt Carthy needs just 2,155 votes to get him over the line.
Marian Harkin looks a strong contender for the final seat after a strong transfer showing from Mairead McGuinness. Harkin picked up 4,266 votes from the elected Fine Gael candidate. She now requires just under 30,000 to meet the quota.
However, Fianna Fail's Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher will be hoping for a strong transfer from party colleague Byrne. He currently needs over 60,000 to get elected.
