Letterkenny: First count summary

Liam Blaney has, as expected, topped the poll in the Letterkenny electoral area.
The farmer and brother of former TD Niall Blaney, was elected on the first count with 1,763 votes, a surplus of 44.
The Fianna Fail councillor, whose heartland base is on north Donegal's Fanad Peninsula, said his increased vote was "a reflection of the hurt and pain out there in our community from years of austerity."
Based on the first count it looks like Fianna Fail will take three of the available ten seats.
Sinn Fein will most likely take two seats with independents fighting to take four seats. Fine Gael is in a battle to take just one seat, with long-standing councillor Noel McBride set to lose his seat.
Among the independents set to take a seat is Ireland's oldest mayor Ian McGarvey who is 83.
