Labour was the big loser in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown with Fine Gael also nursing losses in a traditional stronghold.
Fianna Fail, independents, the Green Party and People Before Profit all secured impressive gains in the area.
Sinn Fein also made their presence felt taking a number of seats whereas even seasoned Labour veterans struggled to retain their seats.
Mary Hanafin and Kate Feeney captured the headlines for Fianna Fail with their entertaining campaign clash which proved all publicity is good publicity as both romped home in Blackrock.
However the party also scored a double in Dundrum, while newcomer Jennifer Cuffe also got a seat in Killiney.
